Piper Heidsieck Rare is the exquisite manifestation of Nature’s unexpected temperament overcame and mastered by the know-how and creativity of the inspired Piper Heidsieck winemakers. Since 1976, special vintage have been produced in those rare years in which Nature shows its unpredictable side, each time very different, but always exceptional.
Piper Heidsieck Rare is a dazzling and impressive wine - the fruit of a terroir exposed to the elements, containing a complex mineral composition that is extremely pure. It is a blend chiefly of Chardonnay, completed with Pinot Noir. The Chardonnay comes from the Montagne de Reims, which is renowned mainly for its Pinot Noir. Its most striking characteristic is its unusual expression of minerality. Both on the palate and on the nose, its notes are those of black liquorice; over time, it assumes subtle oriental flavours, reminiscent of sandalwood and incense.
In the year 1988, the record levels of sunshine experienced that year followed by cool temperature resulted in powerful wines, that is the Piper Heidsieck Vintage 1988. |

Reminiscent of the first Imperial Easter egg ordered in 1885 by Tsar Alexander III for his wife Maria Feodorovna, today’s version, in the baroque style, is adorned with 1,582 diamonds set on a white 18K gold trellis contrasting with a Prussian blue enamel body on a guilloche ground. The pedestal is satin rock crystal and the object is highlighted by a pear-shaped diamond on the closure and crowned by an Akoya pearl. The surprise within: a golden hen with ruby eyes. Concealed within is yet another surprise: a blue enamel egg pendant that opens in four parts to reveal the answer to the question: “Which came first – the chicken or the egg?” |
